Park Head United Methodist Church
1833-present
Park Head United Methodist Church, originally Park Head Union Church, was founded and built in 1833 by Reverend Jeremiah Mason. In 1836, Anthony and Margaret Snyder gave a deed to seven church trustee members. It was to be a "Mutual Rights" Church, founded for all denominations and used by Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Episcopalian and Roman Catholic. There was a gallery for slaves, which today has been remodeled for use as classrooms.
During the Civil War, Union soldiers camped in the church. The following picture depicts Park Head Church prior to the many structural changes that have occurred to accommodate a growing church family. In 1949 a vestibule was added, and in 1957 five Sunday School rooms and a bathroom were added.
A dedication service, marked by the addition of the bronze plate below, was held after the completion of the vestibule and the remodeling of the gallery.
In 1957 five Sunday School rooms and a bathroom were added. In 2000 the west wall of the church was removed to enlarge the sanctuary for our growing congregation. In recent history, the church was called the Park Head Evangelical Church until 1946 when the Evangelical Church merged with the United Brethren Church to form the Park Head Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1968 the Park Head E.U.B. merged with the Methodist Church forming the Park Head United Methodist Church.
